The clip adapters have been designed to be used with a 10cm or shorter ribbon cable, you may be able to use a longer one but I don't recommend it. The ribbon cable that typically comes with the UNI clips is 10cm.

When not being used with the FCCA PSU Adapter the clip adapters can receive power by attaching jumper wires from vccfc to vcc and from viofc to vio. When using an external power supply you only need to supply power to the vcc and vio pins.
